今日のこのアイリッシュ・パンク・シーンを作ったバンドの一つと言っても過言ではないバンド。それがこのGREENLAND WHALEFISHERSです。
90年代後半～2000年代初頭。アメリカでDROPKICK MURPHYSがHELLCATと契約し、FLOGGING MOLLYがSIDE ONE DUMMYと契約し、ヨーロッパではFIDDLER’S GREENがメジャーと契約していた頃、ノルウェーで結成された彼らGREENLAND WHALEFISHERS(以下：GWF)がUKの一大パンク・フェス「HOLIDAY IN THE SUN」に出演。そして世界中のパンク好きに知らしめた踊れるパンク。それがこのジャンルの誕生だと思います。
当時誰しもが感じたであろう先駆者、THE POGUESの存在。その音楽性、祭り性を引き継いだ彼ら、ポーグス・チルドレンの第一世代による、新たなフィエスタ！それはこのGWFの新譜発売と共に、また大きな波となって押し寄せるでしょう。

Greenland Whalefishers will celebrate their 25 years anniversary by releasing a brand new album called ” Based On A True Story ” on March the 8th.
The album Releaseparty will be held at Statsraaden Bar & Reception at Bryggen in Bergen Norway on March the 8th, exactly 25 years to the day after the band held their very first concert.
The brand new album contains 11 tracks and is released as Limited Edition Vinyl with CD version of album inside the sleeve. ALSO the album will contain a BONUS 7″ single with two songs ONLY available in this release. No digital version or streaming version of theese two tracks will be made available.
